Does anyone have experience with dynamic sponsorship?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some guidance regarding Dynamic Sponsorships. One of my clients (on their 113th episode) generates majority of their podcast income from built-in sponsorships each week.

Recently they reached out to me and asked whether we could start doing dynamic sponsorship given that a large portion of their listenership each week is actually older episodes.

They are currently hosting on Buzzsprout and if I’m not mistaken Buzzsprout does not have a dynamic sponsorship feature.

I’ve read that Podbean and Megaphone offer dynamic sponsorship. There is also a platform called Art19 which offers it.

Does anyone have experience with dynamic sponsorship? If so, could you please guide me on what’s the best course of action for us to take.

Thanks I’m advance.

I switched to redcircle in November and am super impressed with their system. You can set up for pre roll, mid roll, end roll—and you have total control on exactly where they hit, how many ads can run, and even down to which episodes of you don’t want them running in all of them. What I find to be even better is how advertisers are finding me for host-read ads that are also inserted using dynamic insertion but i get paid more. They have very responsive customer service and particularly their sales/advertising department. I’m currently netting about $1300 for an ad that runs for three weeks. (They’ve already taken their 30% cut)

Buzzsprout offers pre and post rolls only, no mid-rolls. Megaphone is modern and looks nice, but their platform is glitchy (I know because I used to use Megaphone and left). Art19 is solid. I use them for my show now with dynamic ads in my entire catalog (over 400 episodes) and it's an incredible hosting company with great customer support. They offer the most robust dynamic ad platform I've ever used and I highly recommend it.

thanks so much for this info. I’ll definitely look into it. May I please PM you with a couple extra concerns/questions I have on dynamic sponsorship?

Know that they, Art19, are Amazon if that matters either way. Are there any other platforms out there that provide dynamic ad insertion and changes of ads over time to old podcasts that are smaller more wholistic companies?

If you're asking if there are any mom-and-pop podcasting companies with dynamic ad insertion, the answer is no. Yes, Art19 was bought out by Amazon, but Megaphone was bought out by Spotify, Captivate was bought out by an investment firm, and every other podcast host that makes any money will be bought out very quickly by another corporate giant. That's podcasting today. Small companies will not survive, and all of them (except maybe Libsyn) will require a buyout to stay in business.

As you mentioned, we offer this at Podbean (it's called our PodAds system). You can set slots (pre, mid, and post at any time stamps you determine) for specific episodes, whole catalogue, whatever you like. Ads can also be geo targeted if desired. Feel free to reach out if you need more info. Also glad to answer general ?s about the concept even if not specific to our platform.

Libsyn offers pre, mid and post roll dynamic insertions. Apparently you can even sort episodes into topic so it only lands on those specific episodes but i haven’t tried that. It makes for a very appealing sponsor offer especially if you have a large catalog.
