Growing or monetizing your podcast? And why?

What's more important for where you are right now?

It's not really an either/or. The biggest mistake I made when I started in 2005 was not having a proper strategy - including how I was going to monetize. These days when we launch a new podcast, we have a plan which includes. both a growth and monetization strategy which is executed on day one.

Growing my audience, if the day comes when I can make some money off of it that will be great but, I'm more interested in just sharing my message with as many people as possible. Besides I feel like anyone who gets into podcasting just for the money is an insult to the art of the whole thing. Or to put it in punk rock terms "posers"

Growing the audience, getting the message out to more people. I don't pollute my podcast with ads. I find other ways to bring in the money.

Patreon, and recently have been very successful self-publishing books with podcast content for my audience to purchase which more than pays for my podcast costs.
