Is it worth the extra effort to do a VIDEO podcast?
People say that it's even worth considering fully switching from audio to video... What are your thoughts?

Content wise it is! But only if you have capacity. Your video podcast can be repurposed into: - audio podcasts - FB & IG reels - stories on IG - TikToks - even a blog Visibility🥳

From my research not many people “watch” podcasts. They listen on podcast platforms. I’ve seen many YouTube channels only get around 10 views an episode. I don’t see the point of sitting there watching two heads talk lol. I listen to podcasts on Spotify etc and can be doing anything else while listening.

I'd say yes if you have the resources to execute it correctly. I'd take a perfectly executed audio podcast over a badly executed video podcast any day of the week. With a video podcast is very easy to spread the resources thin, burn out or mess up parts of the production chain as there are more variables and the workload and cost is higher.

Like so many others here are writing, I record video with mine primarily to have clips to share on social media but also because there are people who prefer to access podcasts on YouTube. But I’m not showing anything in the videos because my focus is on listeners. You need to be careful about that because listeners don’t want to feel as if they’re missing anything. I record and edit in Descript. So, I’m editing the video first and add a 1280 x 720 pixel title card to the beginning before exporting and no music. My music is licensed (so, no copyright issues). But my music may trigger ads being shown in videos that don’t monetize for me. After exporting the video, I remove the title card, add my audio-only intro and outro with music, then export as audio-only. After that I export several clips of up to 60 seconds to use on social media. Descript will create captions for you. Great for YouTube. So, sometimes I take the time to do that for the full audio. But I’ve been exporting clips without the captions so that I can use the captioning feature of Instagram and TikTok because I’ve read that those are searchable. So, helpful for people to find your clips.

Do a majority of ya’ll upload or do a video for your entire episode? Or is it just bits and pieces for promo? Because I want people to go to the listening platform to hear the episode. I used to do my entire episodes Facebook live and then I moved to a new studio so I am trying to decide what I should do?

Depending on how you edit it may not be that much extra. I edit my own as well as for my clients all at one time and then upload to YT and then my podcast host, copy and paste the info over. Imho it’s a shame not to include video these days with how easy it is.

I never wanted to do video. I still hate being on video…but yes I would say 100% I don’t have a fancy studio…my YouTube is 7x bigger than my podcast and another platform is now partnering and sharing my stuff and I think my videos are around 2M. There is a whole different audience there. I do share miracles and supernatural (I love Jesus), so he’s my marketing agent;)

Built our entire business on the video podcast show. Clients get both but video grew it into a profitable business. Podcasting is just a part of the business now. I would encourage it regardless.

It depends. Do you need your audience to _see_ something?

So you actually think there are no successful audio only podcasts?

no, there are tens of thousands of successful audio-only podcasts. And in the early days of podcasting, before YouTube, there were a lot of highly successful video podcasts. But these days, I see people consume indie video content on YouTube, but not as a podcast. Besides, a lot of popular podcast apps still don't play video podcasts (like Overcast, Stitcher, Spotify, Amazon, and others).

Most younger people find their podcasts on YouTube, so it depends on who you're trying to reach.

Short answer - yes. Video is king right now and there is a huge demographic who enjoy visual podcasts over audio-only. It's also great promo on social media. I help my clients with this monthly because it's definitely a lot of work, so something to keep in mind especially when it comes to putting out quality content
