Let’s talk hosting platforms...

For those who make their living (or a major percentage of it) from podcasting, let’s talk hosting platforms. I have a podcast currently hosted on red circle. I love them overall. They bring me a decent amount of host read advertising and fill in unsold inventory with programmatic ads. I can still bring in ads from other places. My biggest issue is I can’t use a tracking pixel to share with outside clients. So it can hinder my ability to sell ads to some advertisers. That’s my biggest issue. My second issue is I don’t have control over the default ad block. I can’t insert sn ad sone outside of red circle I to my default ad block. So weeks I sell ads outside I have to not put the default block into the latest episode (but I can’t change that for the all previous episodes) so I just don’t have as much control as Id like. Anyone know of a hosting service that brings in both host read and programmatic ads that allows a tracking pixel for outside clients/advertisers and full insertion control into ad blocks? I’m getting ready to launch a new podcast and these two issues are enough to make me want to see what else is out there.

I’m use ART19 and they do all of these, but you should check ahead of time with any host before making a move. ART19 is very helpful and they can setup pretty much anything you want, even complex ads with lots of moving parts.

I use Omny and it does all those things, although I haven't used its ad sales thing yet. The sponsors usually want the pixel to be Chartable and I can just insert the code into the episode post on Omny

ART19 and Megaphone Pods do this.

Megaphone looks really promising. I reached out to them. Have you or do you use them? I’m getting free hosting right now so the price stings a little. But with all the metrics, it might be worth it. I’m curious to chat with them. Thanks for the info!

I don’t have the bandwidth to sell my own ads. I do have sone companies come direct and when they do I’ll manage the process. But I don’t have the time to reach out and sell ad space. So I’m fine sharing ad revenue even though I know it’s a big cut, especially programmatic.

Do they bring in ads for your show and fill unsold inventory with programmatic ads too? I likely won’t move my current podcast but am researching a solution that can offer all this for my new show.

No, it’s very rare for a podcast host to sell host-read ads. I’m surprised Red Circle offers that, but it could be a good move on their part.

exactly. That’s why I won’t leave. I’ve made them a lot of money. But they’ve done the same for me. I was hoping to find a good solution that matches in the ad department and also offers tracking pixel capabilities.

You might be better off switching to a host like ART19, who has pixels and a lot more, and then signing up with a dedicated podcast ad agency. Agencies are hit and miss when it comes to sales, but that’s the biggest challenge for everyone selling ads. I’ve used 3 agencies exclusively, and they all struggle with sales.
